This is a pretty sleek place, with an outstanding range of whiskies. Being from Speyside myself, I like to think I know a thing or two about the stuff, and Glen had the best range I've seen in Beijing. I rather like the Japanese-style enormo-ice cubes too. Not overly cheap - I was RMB210 for three drinks - but sometimes it's nice to tart yourself up and go uptown. The clientele were mostly middle-aged professionals and the like. It's hardly a rock n' roll atmosphere, but if you like upmarket cigar or whisky bars, this is a decent example of them.
I went there on a Saturday and it was somewhat busy, so getting somewhere to sit wasn't easy. But at one point a table became free so my wife and I sat at it, only to have bar staff say we couldn't sit there. This kind of shit is tiresome, and I refused to move. I'd just paid over 200 yuan for three drinks, so I don't see why I should get a lesser service than anyone else - it wasn't like anyone had actually reserved the table. The waitress pretended not to speak English, too, although I had spoken English with her when I'd ordered the drinks.
