Discover 711's Bizarre Snack Flavors in Beijing

If you take a leisurely walk around a 711 store in Beijing, you're sure to come across an array of distinctly flavored snacks that you won't find anywhere else. Curious about the latest snack offerings, we recently ventured to one such store to explore the new additions to the shelves.

Lay's Exotic Chip Flavors

China is a treasure trove of localized Lay's chip flavors that are unheard of elsewhere. We discovered two region-specific offerings from Shandong and Hebei, and were compelled to dive right in.

The Shandong Heze edition has a rich mutton soup flavor. It's so strong, in fact, that the smell hits you the moment you open the bag. It's a bit of an acquired taste -- you'll either find it appealing or not to your liking.

Then there's the Hebei Donkey Meat flavor. Upon the first crunch, this is a flavor that instantly evokes the desire to complement it with a bowl of donkey soup sprinkled with fresh coriander.

Magic Water Master's Beverage Inventions

Magic Water Master, or 魔水师 (Moshuishi), has been concocting some of the most bizarre flavors in recent memory. They initially stirred up attention with their Erguotou soda.

Their latest innovation amalgamates vinegar and soda, a product that, at first glance, seems more akin to a vinegar bottle than a soda drink. However, upon taking the plunge and sampling it, the taste pleasantly contradicts its name. It delivers a flavor akin to a carbonated beverage infused with apple cider vinegar, proving to be a refreshing choice for a summer drink!

Alpenlieb x Gancuimian: An Unexpected Candy Collab

Alpenlieb candies made their debut in China back in 1996. These candies hold a special place in the hearts of many Beijingers who reminisce about their childhood days when there were limited candy options available. Alpenlieb's traditional caramelized flavors were a particular hit among candy lovers.

In a surprising move, Alpenlieb collaborated with Gancuimian, another beloved childhood snack in Beijing. For those who aren't too familiar with Gancuimian, they are a snack made by mixing boiled noodles with condiments and frying them until crispy.

Although the combination of Gancuimian and Alpenlieb candy may seem unconventional, many Dianping users have praised the satisfying crunch and fragrant wheat flavor that the Gancuimian brings to the Alpenlieb candy.
