Wanshou Temple reopens after undergoing major reconstruction
Wanshou Temple has undergone its fifth large-scale repair, reports Xinhua News. Built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) during the reign of Emperor Wanli, the Buddhist temple was expanded during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
According to Wang Dan, the curator of the Beijing Art Museum, the museum was closed in 2017 to clear the way for the renovation project which started in 2018. An area of more than 10,000 square meters in the temple was renovated. Major repairs include touch ups of wall paintings and the restoration of Buddhist statues.
Quanjude's New Store Comes to Wangfujing
Quanjude, a well-known roast duck restaurant chain that has been around since the 1800s, opened a new branch in Beijing’s Wangfujing area in September, China Daily reports. The popular spot is known for authentic Peking duck and other fine dishes.
The décor of the restaurant takes inspiration from traditional Chinese culture, with the first floor having a rose-theme and the second floor having a peony-themed banquet hall for weddings.
Beijing Distributes Emotion-Sensing Equipment for Long Haul Vehicles
A transportation company in Beijing has distributed 1,800 sets of emotion-sensing devices to drivers to keep track of their life signs and mental stress in real time to ensure the drivers are in a good condition to drive, reports the Global Times.
The equipment is mainly designed for drivers who make frequently highway trips or make long-distance trips across provinces. The company has run trials on more than 40,000 drivers, tracking the status of their psychological and mental health.
The company plans to equip 8,000 vehicles with a safety warning system. About 6,500 vehicles will also be fitted with an abnormal behavior monitoring system, according to Beijing Public Transport.
Art Season Kicks Off at Solana Mall
Beijing’s Solana Mall in Chaoyang district has welcomed the first edition of Solana Art Season recently, according to China Daily.
The event, in collaboration with several art museums in Beijing, is themed on “eating a bit of art.”
The exhibition will feature work by a number of popular Chinese artists, and the event will also host a classical music concert and vinyl record markets. Solana's Art Season will last until Oct 7.
