Quick! It's Time to Book Tickets to This Year’s Beijing Film Festival

Finally! The 11th Beijing International Film Festival is coming to town. After all the twists and turns, the annual film carnival will be open on September 21. From Sep 17-30, 269 films from all over the world will meet the audience in 31 cinemas around Beijing. What’s special for this year is it’s also the first time that the festival goes beyond Beijing and extends to Tianjin and Zhangjiakou, which means people from these two cities can also enjoy the festival in local theatres.

Today at noon, the battle begins to book your ticket online. Based on my previous experiences, I can tell you that it can be a battle as some popular titles may sell out extra quickly. But follow the tips below can highly increase your chance to get what you want. Good luck and see you in the theatre!

1. Set a clock!

The time to book your film festival ticket is noon, September 14 (today!). Set a clock in advance to remind yourself if you don’t want to miss it!

2. Download the APP

Maoyan 猫眼 (literally translated as "the cat eyes") is the exclusive platform to sell this year’s film festival ticket. Download it from your app store. Register by your phone number. Et voila, welcome on board!

3. Pick your choice

Go to the festival's official website to get a comprehensive list of all films. Pick out your favorite ones and find them in the app. Click the “+” button to add them to your “Schedule” (You can enter the event page via the front banner in Maoyan).

4. Real-name authentication

Once you've added your picks into the Schedule, it will remind you to go through the real-name authentication. Sadly there is no English instruction for this procedure but a passport is acceptable. So, ask a Chinese friend to help you out.

5. Turn on the APP notification

Now you’re all set! Turn on notifications for the app to double ensure you won’t miss the big event tomorrow.

6. Call up your friends

For each order, you can only book four tickets for each film. So better call up your friends!

7. You nailed it!

Congratulations! Now you can see the digital ticket lying quietly in your APP. Check them in “我的-我的订单-电影票” (Mine-My order-film ticket).
