Horrendous Beijing Film Festival Poster Draws Ridicule From Netizens

The much anticipated 10th annual Beijing International Film Festival was announced last week, but the event's poster ended up trending on Weibo more than the event itself as netizens mocked its amateurish design – something that was unexpected coming from a major visual arts event.

The Film Festival’s Organizing Committee has always had a different vision and aesthetic than you might expect from the ordinary person, but this is the first time that their poster has been critiqued as “out of this world ugly.”

The poster's design invited comparisons to a wide array of non-film related items, from wedding cakes to condoms – among other things that are best left to the imagination. “I thought I was on the Durex website,” remarked one commenter, while another quipped, “Remember to wear protection when you go to the cinema.” Not content to simply voice their objections, a number of users even mocked up their own posters mocking the official one:

On a more serious note, the 10th Beijing International Film Festival will be held from Aug 22 to Aug 29 after the original April date was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns. The venue hasn't been announced yet but tickets are available for booking starting at RMB 500 here.
