The weekend is here! Time for fun, relaxation, and recharging the ol' batteries ahead of *gulp* Monday morning's alarm clock. Luckily enough, there’s plenty of fun stuff to keep you occupied over the weekend that doesn't necessarily involve getting blitzed. Our weekend roundup offers you some of the best.

Dec 13: Obsessions Vol. 3

Everyone has their obsessions, some more than others. Luckily for those truly obsessed with music, there's now have a safe and non-judgmental space for them to let loose their intimate knowledge of various musical subjects and genres to the world. Now in its third volume, Obsessions welcomes three new speakers to Auto Space on Friday evening who'll talk about and play snippets of library music, emotional Christmases, and Neue Deutsche Welle. Dec 14: Beijing Lights talk

Spittoon's acclaimed Beijing Lights series has just released it's 10th installment and is celebrating the milestone with its first dedicated event. The Beijing Lights is a series of narratives told in the first-person by people that creator Huang Chenkuang has encountered in her daily life, which so far include an old barber in the park, a blind massage therapist, and a fortune-teller. The event will consist of a discussion of the project, and readings from the fascinating series. Dec 14: Jing-A Reindeer Run

Instead of their annual Halloween race, Jing-A is having a beer mile at their new Longfusi brewery. Competitors will do four 1/4 mile laps around Longfusi, drinking a cup of beer on each lap. For serious runners, this competition is a fierce battle of speed and drinking ability. For most participants, it's just a really fun way to kick off the evening's festivities, an Ugly Sweater party that will begin just after the race. There will be special deals on Red Lantern IPA and Black Velvet Vanilla Stout and free cinnamon fried dough for everyone who dresses to them, in a gaudy seasonal sweater. RMB 88 (including a spot in the race, 4 beers, and a Santa hat). Dec 14-15: Themed documentary screening

This weekend, Goethe Institute is bringing nine great documentaries and short films to Beijing audiences, which were selected from award-winners of the Leipzig International Documentary and Short Films Festival and Pure Movies, including 2017 award-winning documentary Genderbende, and 2016 animated film Le Clitoris (is pictured at top), each of which offers a unique, thought-provoking perspective on sex, gender, and gender identity. Dec 14-15: Markets galore

For all of your Christmas gifts needs, you never run of choice in Beijing. This weekend, it's a veritable 神仙打架 “God Fights” (read here for explanation) weekend with some of our favorite markets all being held at the same time, including the annual highlight Hutong Winter Fayre, “Give a Present” Christmas market in Café Zarah, as well as A to Zine Indie Publishers Fair and Loreli Affordable Art Market for those who are more into indie publications.
