First Glance: Tiger Mama, Sanlitun
Macanese eatery Tiger Mama takes its place on Sanlitun Xijie along with Mosaic, Nearby the Tree, and Mr Shi's Sanlitun. The restaurant is clean, is decorated with a minimalistic design, and has friendly service to top it all off. In the early mornings, there's plenty of space, as we found out. It gets busy around lunch and dinner time though, as later experienced from various glimpses inside.
We ordered the shaomai (RMB 15), which had a delicious fresh seafood taste and beautiful texture, and came served in a little basket doused in vinegar. There are plenty of other condiments available if you wanted to add a little kick or additional vinegar.
The signature Tiger vermicelli soup (RMB 28), which comes with a choice of either vermicelli, thin noodles, noodles or instant noodles, was filled with plenty of beef brisket, fish cake slices, squid, and curry chicken all combined to form an authentic Macanese taste. The steamy broth made for a satisfying soup, even in this hot weather.
Other items on the menu include traditional Macanese snacks such as braised chicken wings (RMB 16), squid balls in curry sauce (RMB 16), boiled radish (RMB 12), and beef offal and radish (RMB 32). Dry noodles with shrimp roe (RMB 48) and signature beef brisket noodles (RMB 32) also caught our eye, and we'll be coming back to try them at a later date.
There's something for everyone at Tiger Mama, and with prices like these, it is sure to become a hot spot for Sanlitun's office dwellers and party crowds, especially the latter who can stumble till 2.30am every day.

Tiger Mama isn't as busy during the lunch hours anymore. They've also adjusted the prices for several of their menu items, including the dry noodles with shrimp roe (pictured below, now only RMB 32).
