Serk Bike Cafe to Close, Moving to MOMA

Beijing's one-of-a-kind bike-cafe-bar-event space, Serk, is packing up at the end of this month, but co-owner Shannon Bufton assures us it's for bigger and better things. He announced today that in a few months, they would be relocating to the Linked-Hybrid space at Beijing MOMA, partly due to rising rent at their current location, and that they're "not sad."

"We were here for two years and got every ounce we could out of that space," he said, adding that they're ready to move out of the hutongs and into a more modern space and will be taking their current concept to the "next step."

While we can't yet reveal Serk's plans, expect some elements, like the cafe and bike workshop, to remain. Bufton, co-founder of Smarter Than Car, says he plans to host a new events series, called Serk Salon Sessions, where key figures in the community host discussions one morning a week.

For those wishing to give their bikes a winter tune up, Serk's services are still available at their original workshop location near Ditan Park, by appointment only. Contact them or sign up through their website here.

Keep an eye on this space for more information about Serk's future plans as they come in.
