Burn Your Books For Real: Kindle Launches June 7

A month ago, we helped circulate rumors that the Kindle would be available in China soon. Turns out we were right. The photo above from Weibo user @Mr_各种浪 shows a Kindle product counter at a Suning electronics store on May 26. The photo came with the comment, "There was no staff or price," but we can expect those pesky details to come soon. In fact, some are already appearing.

Just today, reports emerged that the Kindle will be available June 7 at an estimated price of RMB 849 for the Kindle Paperwhite with Wifi, and RMB 1,400 to 1,500 for the Kindle Fire HD. Previous reports had indicated that only the Paperwhite would be available, but this time around, we're seeing nods toward all of Kindle's products being rolled out in China. The company has just made moves to clamp down on the piracy threats that were holding them back in the Chinese e-reader market.

The Kindle E-reader will be available through Amazon China, Suning.com and on the ground in Suning's storefront. Burn your books for real this time.

Hi, when I visited the Suning on Chaoyangmenwai Dajie last July they had them in stock. But I didn't purchase one as I discovered that Kindles in China are locked to the Amazon.cn bookstore which has a scant selection of English books and imported titles. I'm also not aware of a Suning in Sanlitun, perhaps you're refering to the Shundian in the basement of the Village?

no ...no, i have not yet tried to purchase online\mail order.

I was hoping to be able to find an actual store that had them on the shelf.

the article indicated they were on the shelf in Suning stores - i'm confirming

that they are'nt at the store in Sunlitun - are there other Suning stores ?

anywhere else claimed to carry the kindle line ?
