TBJ October - A Metro-spective

Of all the changes that Beijing has experienced over the last 60 years, it’s arguable that the most rapid and startling transformations have happened in the past decade.. Like a subway train car gathering speed, Beijing’s growth has only accelerated since the turn of the millennium, and this month’s Cover Feature captures the city’s development into a world-class metropolis. Those who were around back then will enjoy a misty-eyed ride down memory lane. For those who are newer to town, it’s an insight into how much the city has changed. Hop on our subway line and travel with us back in time.

First stop is our Ecology section and news on the Algacultural revolution of algae power. This month Fashion Five-Oh tracks down trainers. Remember the first time you had baijiu? PLA does. We also give props to propaganda's performance at the box office and to the rise of China's female tennis stars ahead of the China Open.

Take 5 takes on Sports that China "invented", "Made in China" cosmetics, Patriotic dishes and Beijing-only beverages. And there's even more in the Dining section than before - Chef's Selections, Alleyway Gourmet and Decoding the Dish should whet your appetite. Plus - as ever - all of the new bars, restaurants and shops you can spend your holidays in.
