The Summer Palace has so many places to see, you can always find some place new when you go, I have been there many times and am surprised at finding things I never knew were there. My favorite is the Suzhou Street on the north end, you can get there directly from the north gate access and you have to pay a different entrance fee but you go down into this canal like area with old traditional chinese houses on the sides of the canal, you can meet some pretty native beijingers there doing all kinds of stuff, sit around have some tea, buy a kit there, get someone to write your chinese name on some special medium, but best of all take some pictures. People always ask me where I took the pictures when I show them my pics from there.
