I bought meat from the butcher once and was disappointed, but friends told me to give the restaurant a chance. Went there today for lunch, and it was a HUGE disappointment, and actually one of the worst meals I have anywhere in Beijing over the years.

Salad bar was just a joke really. There wasn’t even a point to have it.

The meal was just lousy. We had 1 rib eye and 1 fillet mignon, both of which were bad. The fillet was just dry and over-cooked, the steak fries were inedible due to significant over-salting, and the mixed vegetable sauté had no business being on the plate as it destroyed any harmony that might have been on the plate, and tasted like it was a bad stir-fry from a cheap Chinese restaurant. The oyster mushrooms simply failed to work with the rest of the dish. Add to that an also over-salted béarnaise, and it was a disaster.

My friend had the rib-eye. This was actually under-cooked for medium, and oddly tasted cold from the fridge. It wasn’t even that the piece of meat was cold from sitting on the pass; the meat seemed to have been taken from very cold storage, and just not given time to heat properly. It was nasty. The side was mashed potatoes which was a glob of something like a gelatinous mess. We still can’t figure what must have been mixed with the mashed potatoes to get that way, but both of us tasted, and neither of us could stomach it.

The guys behind us were also complaining that their burger was cold. The chef gave some overly-confident but lame excuse that the meat was cold due to the cold veggies on the burger (tomato, lettuce, etc), but I suspect it was the same story as the rib-eye.

232 yuan wasted on that one. I will NEVER go back.

Overall, If I could get away with submitting this review without even giving 1 star I would. That would be too generous.
