I will quickly comment here on the service at Great Leap. As I've had great interactions with the staff and poor ones. Carl and the rest of the crew can be either lively and happy or as mean and spiteful as they come. Oddly enough it seems they get more irritable as patron levels rise. I'd say I feel bad but isn't that what you want when you run a business?

As for the beer, the quality certainly is higher than anything else currently in the city and their pale ale and stout are both excellent. Some of the experimental beers are worth a taste and I give credit to Carl for trying out some interesting recipes.

My issue holding back a higher rating is the following: Great Leap's beer this summer has been too warm to enjoy. We're not talking just below room temperature like a nice English hand pumped ale, we're talking at a temperature that is basically undrinkable. I'm not someone who needs his beer ice cold; but I think the investment in some refrigeration would significantly improve the drinking experience. Otherwise I might not be back until later October or November when daily temperatures don't exceed 25 degrees.
