Mouthwatering Mexican: Casa Latina Spices Up Solana

Mexican food in Beijing has never seemed as authentically Hecho en Mexico as Casa Latina. Sure, there have been places that real Mexicans have recommended but they proved short-lived (stand up, El Fogoncito and Casa Mexicana), leaving the market open to domination by watered-down Tex-Mex. Here, though, the mouthwatering menu lives up to its promises.

Try the flautas de papa (RMB 60) – with potatoes this creamy, encased in a handy taco shell, it’s amazing the Mexicans never tried to conquer Western Europe. The sopesitos (RMB 48) and fish tacos (RMB 68) are two more highlights – both tender and delicately spiced.

The drinks (Latin cocktails, RMB 40-50; Bucanero and Cristal beers, RMB 45; two-for-one happy hour, 6-8pm daily) are special enough to class Casa Latina solely as a bar. Throw in the nightly presence of a Cuban party band and the view of Solana’s neon, and you can cancel spring break in Cancun.
