Duck de Chine 2 Opening Soon!

Quacking news for kaoya fans! The folks behind 1949 – The Hidden City (the super sleek dining complex in Sanlitun home to Duck de Chine, Taverna and Toro Bar, duh) are set to unveil their latest project … 1949 Jinbao Jie.

Tucked in just behind Jinbao Place, the glitzy mall that’s home to a branch of Dadong and Thai restaurant Patara, 1949 Jinbao Jie will house a second location of the much loved Peking duck / Cantonese hybrid restaurant Duck de Chine, set to open end of next month. A new executive chef is coming on board (Cantonese, like current father / son duo Peter and Wilson Lam) reputed to have 30 years experience under his belt, who will faithfully recreate Duck de Chine’s big hits while adding a few of his own.

Unlike its lofty mall surroundings, 1949 Jinbao Jie is more traditional ‘Beijing courtyard’ in style with twin gardens (er jin shi, I’m told) similar to the Hong Kong Jockey Club a couple of minutes away. The entrance, opening on to the street, is in between The Legendale Hotel and Jinbao Place Mall. A large basement level beneath Duck de Chine will likely house a brand new F&B concept, but they won’t tell us what it is yet. Look out for more info and photos this time next week.
