Bargain Buys: June Jam Market Postponed

Get your wallets ready, for another flea market is hitting town! Since first taking place in March, Jam Market has become a monthly event featuring vintage and hand-made clothes, jewelry and accessories, while also giving anyone who wants to sell their own creations the chance to participate. The mini-bazaar is usually held at Jam Bar on the second Saturday of every month, but dampen your enthusiasm because the June edition has been rescheduled to a to-be-defined date.

A handful of neighboring Gulou shops like Mega Mega Vintage and Underground Kidz have been regularly touting their wares there. The items on offer tend to be varied, with a predilection for retro style must-haves like flower-print midi skirts and checked flannel shirts, as well as charming accessories like French pins from Paris Pekin (from RMB 49).

The best part is that many of the clothes are discounted and very affordable. Many dresses cost only around RMB 60, while accessories range from RMB 20-50. The stalls with handmade creations stood out above the rest – I'd recommend Planet No. 239's colorful rings (from RMB 18) and dangling earrings (from RMB 19). The prices rightly match flea market expectations, but the quality far surpasses them.

While slightly more expensive, Neva&Roy is sure to make every hat lover’s heart beat faster. If the straw hats decorated with flowers and ribbons remind you too much of “Little House on the Prairie,” the painted berets are perfect and stunning.

Buying is not everything, at least so I’ve been told. Jam Market is open to everyone, whether you want to add to their wardrobe, display your personal creations or simply meet new people.
