3 Tips To Get Over The Holiday Blues In Beijing

Qingming Holiday is over, and now it's time to jump back to reality. This might be a hard time for us to go back to our regular routines after a long festive break, and our mood might be just a little deflated…If you feel like these holiday blues are getting to you, here are some tips a Beijinger like me uses to deal with the common post-holiday syndrome.

1. Stop drinking for a few days

You've probably had a few beers over the break. Or, you treated yourself to enough xiaolongbao or zhajiangmian to fill up on carbs for a month. Well, on the first few days after a break, it's best to stick to a healthy diet and opt for something lighter to let your stomach recover from all that excessive consumption of calories. Your stomach will surely thank you later!

2. Push harder!

I am not even remotely close to being a gym rat, but I do like to push myself extra hard to help me get back to my normal routine faster. You'll very likely experience some kind of soreness or pain in your muscles the next day if you weren’t able to keep up with some exercise over the holiday, perhaps you need some extra motivation now.

Hit that gym you've always wanted to go to, run on that tread mill for just a little bit longer or jog in that park that's only a 10-minute walk from where you live. Heck, maybe you can even stretch your muscles at Chaoyang Park and strike up a conversation with Beijing damas to brush up your Chinese a little bit.

3. Make a planner

It’s easy to think of the coming months of the year as dark and dreary with the pandemic. Fear not. Perhaps there is no better time than now to make a planner to get a bigger picture of your goals.

Arrange game nights to catch up with your friends at one of your favorite local bars in Beijing. Think of things you want to do for the rest of the year. Pick up a book you would like to read at PageOne. Just keep in mind that we are already in April, and as the days are getting longer each day it means we will have more time to ourselves.
