Join the U.S. Consulate Guangzhou for a virtual book discussion featuring Bryan Washington’s Lot: Stories on Thursday, June 24 at 7:00pm! In this series of short stories in the city of Houston – a sprawling, diverse microcosm of America – the son of a black mother and a Latino father is coming of age. And discovering he likes boys. Lot was named a New York Times Notable Book in 2019. Bryan Washington is a writer from Houston. His fiction and essays have appeared in the New York Times, the New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, TIME Magazine, the BBC, The Paris Review, Boston Review, and Buzzfeed among many other publications. He is a National Book Award 5 Under 35 honoree and winner of the Dylan Thomas Prize, the Ernest J. Gaines Award for Literary Excellence, and is a Lambda Literary Award recipient. He received the New York Public Library Young Lions Fiction Award for his first book, Lot, which was also a finalist for the NBCC’s John Leonard Prize, the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize, and the Aspen Words Literary Prize. He is currently the Writer-In-Residence at Rice University.
