Thirsty? Wet your whistle with Booze News, our wrap-up of the week's best bar deals, parties, drink concoctions, industry gossip, and more.
New drinks menu at El Barrio
El Barrio has revamped their drinks menu just in time for CNY, adding a new range of margaritas, including coconut, papaya, mango, blueberry, and most excitingly, strawberry jalapeño. They also have a new happy hour available Sunday to Thursday from 9-11pm for buy one, get one free on draft beer (Carlsberg and Jing-A Worker's Pale Ale), margaritas, and cocktails: think BOGOF on sangria, paloma, and mojito as well as negroni, whisky sour, or gin and tonic. The bar is also now packed with over 25 bottles of agave spirits, which can be enjoyed by the shot, bottle, or tasting flight (see above). They haven't forgotten the non-drinkers either, launching a line of new mocktails. Details on all of this and more can be found here.
Jing-A's Hutong Haircut Party returns
Jing-A's ever-popular annual Hutong Haircut Party returns to the gritty(-ish) streets of Beijing this Saturday. Now in its sixth year, this year's events will take place outside of their Longfusi taproom between midday and 5pm, offering anyone and everyone a trim and a beer of their choice for only RMB 60. There'll also be some traditional games (jianzi, chess, badminton, hopscotch, and the all-new Jing-A Long Jump Challenge) to keep you entertained while you wait. Get the full details here.
Free-flow post-work happy hour at Centro
One of the best cocktail deals we've seen recently, Centro has launched an all-new post-work happy hour deal, offering patrons free-flow on a range of 20 cocktails for only RMB 108. Turn up on Monday to Friday, 7-9pm, throw down the equivalent of what usually buys you one cocktail at the Kerry Hotel bar to drink your heart's content. Drinks include the El Diablo (tequila, creme de cassis, fresh lime juice, and a ginger beer top), the Americano (Rosso vermouth, Campari, and topped up with soda), the Charlie Chaplin (sloe gin, apricot brandy, and fresh lime juice), the Vieux Carre (cognac, rye whiskey, Rosso vermouth, Benedictine, and bitters), and many more.
New Anchor Bar happy hour
Anchor Pop-Up Store just south of Great Leap Brewing #12 has also launched its own happy hour from Thursday to Sunday, 6.30-9.30pm. During that time, classic cocktails, long drinks, and shots are all buy one, get one free. The bar has launched a range of nine new shot deals, ranging from RMB 140-150 for six or RMB 260-280 for 12. We won't get into it here, but let's just say one of the new varieties is certainly, um, creative. See for yourself here.
