Behind These Walls is a story about a randomly selected group of students who are summoned to school on a Saturday morning to save the future of the institution. They are asked to work together to come up with a concrete plan that will convince the school board not to shut down. In the process, they discover the importance of teamwork and highlight the school’s core values – courage, kindness, wisdom and adaptability. The story is narrated by the MC Squad, a group of rapping street dancers who invite the audience to reflect on the choices the students are making. However, it’s the fairies who bring their magic to enchant the students – to break down their walls, to be honest about who they truly are. 

As we conclude 2020, I am filled with joy to see this personal project come to life with twenty-three of our students from grades 2-11, collaborating beautifully. We have produced Behind These Walls with the sponsorship of KaiWen Arts Academy and the unconditional support of CKWA.
