As part of their 20th anniversary celebrations, JD Twitch and JG Wilkes will play at Dada Beijing and Dada Shanghai on 8th and 9th September.

JD Twitch and JG Wilkes are responsible for the club night Optimo (Espacio), which ran in Glasgow between 1997 and 2010 at Sub Club. As a DJ duo, Optimo have over 50 years’ DJing experience and both are revered on the international circuit, playing at some of the biggest clubs and festivals around the globe, as well as appearing on Boiler Room several times.

Since the beginning, there has been no fixed music policy. Twitch and Wilkes play an enlightened mix of what they want to hear, be it techno or house rubbing up against post-punk, new wave, rave and other assorted oddities from across the decades. They are all about open minds and fresh perspectives.

Each Optimo set is different, whether it be a tiny basement sweatbox, the main room of a super club or a thousand people in a field, everything they do springs from the spirit of the crowd and the rhythm of the moment. It is the unique enthusiasm of each crowd, wherever they go, that provides inspiration and feeds the joy in what they do. These are the reasons Optimo have become two of the UK’s busiest and best loved DJs.

This summer sees them celebrate 20 years since the birth of their club night and 20 years since they started DJing together, touring across Europe and beyond, while hosting their own three-stage festival in Glasgow, Optimo 20, which played host to the likes of Ben UFO, Black Madonna, Midland and many more.

算盘 residents Tanner and Juhstynn have been hugely influenced by Optimo over the years, and as such, have invited Twitch and Wilkes to play at Dada Beijing on Friday 8th September and Dada Shanghai Saturday 9th September 2017.

算盘: A new body-sonic dance party

The idea: to create something away from the trend of one-genre clubbing, where music lovers can go to hear alternative sounds from all corners of the globe under one roof.

算盘 was conceived from conversations about the lack of musically diverse parties currently on offer. Those behind it aim to dig deep into their record collections, spanning music old and new, across decades and genres. Over the coming months, 算盘 will invite their favourite musical figures from around the world to play in Beijing and Shanghai.
