Sound healing uses sound vibrations to promote whole body relaxation, and can help participants reach deep states of meditation.

Nostalgia is a part of all our experiences. It usually hits us in waves when we aren’t prepared. It can be triggered by bumping into an ex-partner, the scent of a hand soap, or a particular sound: the crunch of gravel, a song from your childhood, the scratch of pencils on answer sheets.

The Power of Sound: Nostalgia is a curated programme of sound healing lasting one afternoon that will help you consciously connect to your past, and reflect on the sounds that are present in your life.

The event uses innovative soundscapes and sound healing paired with aromatherapy to enable you to take a step back and contemplate your past, all taking place in the grounds of the Sound Art Museum.

Expect to leave invigorated and more mindful of ambient sounds.

Cost: 433 yuan per person

Early-bird: 325 yuan pp (25% off for first 20 registrants)

Ticket includes:

· Museum entrance (worth 100 yuan) and exhibit introduction

Return coach transport is available from Chaoyang District (Liangmaqiao/Guomao) for 40 yuan per person.

A coach is organised to bring attendees from Chaoyang District (Liangmaqiao/Guomao) to the Sound Art Museum in Tongzhou District.

Module 1 – The Sounds of Old Beijing

Weilin Zhang introduces Colin Chinnery’s exhibit The Sounds of Old Beijing. Guests can then peruse the sound museum.

Module 2 – Aromatherapy Ambience

Ambient sounds sow the seeds of nostalgia when combined with a custom aromatherapy blend, compsoed and curated by Jai Jethwa, a musician and sound-innovation artist based in London.

Module 3 – Fairfield: An Immersive Soundscape

Our experienced sound healer Vero will play over the soundscape produced by British sound innovator Jai Jethwa to lead you into a deep meditative state. The sound bath will end with a special energising aromatherapy oil.

A Thai-inspired buffet dinner with salad bar is served (includes a vegan option).

Module 4 – Mother

After a day of exploration and relaxation, re-energise with a live performance from David McDermott. His combination of cover songs and original music, combined with a selection of his own oil paintings, will leave you with new memories to reminisce on in future years.

The Sound Art Museum is one of Beijing’s hidden gems. Nestled away in sleepy Songzhuang, it is often overlooked by travellers. The museum houses a range of exhibits, but Colin Chinnery’s The Sounds of Old Beijing has been selected for special attention during this event.
