Born in Beijing. Both undergraduate and graduate students studied at the University of Oregon, specializing in classical piano performance (undergraduate) and jazz piano performance (graduate), respectively. He studied classical piano with Alexandre Dossin, David Riley and Dean Kramer. He studied with Georgia's talented pianist Beka Gochiashvili, renowned pioneer jazz composer, conductor, saxophonist, educator Steve Owen, pianist and educator Torrey Newhart, and trumpeter and educator Paul Krueger.
