When you or your loved ones feel depressed or are dealing with severe anxiety, it can be challenging to navigate your options for self-care and treatment resources, that are available in Beijing. In an effort to further support our mental health community, we will host a one-hour session with mental health professionals to answer your questions, as an extension of our pre-treatment guidance project.
The Speakers
Dr Theo A. Cope
PhD in Applied Psychology; Psychologist at Raffles Medical Beijing
Dr. Theo Cope has been practicing counseling and psychotherapy since 2000. He has worked in various settings within organizations and private practice, treating a variety of mental and psychological issues. He has also provided training for Chinese counselors and therapists.
Dr. Cope holds a postgraduate degree in Applied Psychology and is a Certified Family Consultant and Psychotherapist with accreditation from Germany. He is a generalist who has experience working with children, youths, and adults, as well as families and couples. Some specific diagnoses he has treated, include: eating disorders, self-harming, depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, ADHD and other developmental challenges, substance abuse, as well as cross-cultural relationships and marital difficulties. He uses techniques of Positive Psychotherapy, Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy to help his clients.
He is a member of the World Association of Positive Psychotherapy and the International Federation for Psychotherapy (IFP).
Xiaojie Qin

Chinese-born Xiaojie, has been working in the field of mental health since 2015. Xiaojie was the representative of a global Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Task Group 2017-2019, with an international NGO. With CandleX, Xiaojie has been the Chief Editor of CandleX Community Writing; lead facilitator of the Mental Health Peer Support Group from 2015-2020; facilitator and presenter of CandleX’s workshops and panel discussions; and interviewed by countless domestic and international media on mental health topics. Besides her role with CandleX, she also provides counseling services to clients with various challenges including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety and so on. She is knowledgeable on the mental health services provided in China, both for Chinese and expats, particularly in Beijing and provides psycho-education on supporting oneself and other through difficult times.

You will be put in a group and you can type your questions in the group.
We will review the questions and make a list of the common questions asked. It is worth noting that due to the limitation of time, we might not be able to answer all your questions. Please note that this is not a treatment session and your requirement for recommendation for medication and diagnosis will not be taken.
