WHAT

“Summer House” is a hands-on activity, throughout the course students are expected to build a house that is made by recycled cardboards. The project requests the students to work in teams, plan and construct a house by themselves.

This course also encourages students to work with recycled materials, and documenting their process with different medias, including photography, videos and paintings. “STEAM” will be employed within the process of the construction of the house, which includes Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.

WHY

This project challenges students from different fields, such as:

- Hand-building, designing in an interior aspect.

- Planning, working with precise dimensions.

- Team works, leadership, communication skills.

- Documentation (process journal).

- Ability of respect the surroundings.

WHO

Age from 8 to 14, basic English is required.

TUTOR

Mark O‘Rourke is an active British art educator and contemporary artist. He graduated from Slade School (University College London) in 1997 and received a “TEFL” certificate from Trinity College London in 2002. Mark developed a number of Art modules which have been validated and accredited by external bodies. As an educator, he taught on a variety of modules including language development, British culture and contextual studies, whilst also developing specialist modules in Media and Fine Art. Mark has strong teaching skills and rich teaching experience, he works in both the private and public sectors also at University level. He also has worked with autistic students for many years.

BACA Art Center | Nook Gallery is a new addition to the Beijing art scene, and is located within the second ring road of Beijing, near Yonghe Temple. The Center is an unique platform to promote emerging contemporary artists, as well as being an experimental space for exhibition, performance and film. BACA Art Center | Nook Gallery also holds art workshops and short courses, taught in English by Art and Design professionals and suitable for all ages.
