Cinema is not only a source of endless hours of joy and entertainment; it provides us with food for thought and great conversation. We believe that the value we derive from films comes not just from viewing them, but in the mutual exchange of our shared experience - preferably over a cup of coffee or drinks in a casual, intimate setting.

On Sunday, September 17, we will launch our weekly curated cycle of thematically linked films, beginning with a double-feature of Akira Kurosawa film noirs. In contrast to his sprawling samurai epics, these gritty, urban dramas set in contemporary Tokyo are more overtly humanist in their portrayal of characters faced with the moral conflicts of a quickly changing society. Our first film cycle running from this Sunday to October 8th is dedicated to probing this humanist engagement in the films of Kurosawa and other Japanese modernists and will continue in coming weeks with the works of Sabu, Teshigahara and others. Join us each Sunday at 5:00 PM as we screen films that we believe have something to say, then stay afterwards and say something about them.

Please note:
- Dinner choices should be made before the start of the first movie so the café staff can have everything ready as soon as the movie ends, which will give us more time to talk and enjoy the meal. Various options from local take-aways will be made available.

- Movies will be screened in original version with English subtitles, unless the movie is in English, in which case they will be subtitled in Chinese.
