Rightfully the successor to Tang Dynasty's heydays.

DreamSpirit is China's melodic heavy metal band from Tai'an at the foot of the sacred mountain Mount Tai in Shandong. Having been based in Beijing for 6 years, DreamSpirit unveiled their second full-length album General Triumphant and an extensive China tour promoting the effort.

The album General Triumphant's release date was set on 28 July 2017, when the band played a successful set on Zhangbei Sun Music Festival.

And the 30+ date China tour in support of this album has already started with the first date in Lhasa, the Tibetan capital city, on 26 August, where lead singer Shunzi had to be accompanied by an oxygen can on stage.

General Triumphant is a concept album focusing on a fictional general of an ancient army whose traits remind us of three famous historical figures: 曹操 Cao Cao (155-220), the glorious warlord of the Three Kingdoms 三国 period, 岳飞 Yue Fei (1103-1142), the national hero of Song Dynasty, and 林冲 Lin Chong, a fictional character and anti-hero in "Water Margin" 《水浒传》(set in Song Dynasty, written in the 14th Century). The songs are more guitar-driven than the previous release and each song stands for its own qualities, yet all in a way carefully constructed with contagious melodies and dazzling guitar solos.

Lead singer Shunzi says, "with this album, we want to achieve a balance between Western rock and the use of traditional Chinese music instruments but we don’t see it as fusion or mix. It's a guitar-driven album, and there's also less use of Classical Chinese [comparable to Shakespearean English] in the lyrics. We'd like to make it more accessible."
