The exhibition will present over 10 landscape and 40 portrait works of the artist, Zheng Pingping, created over the recent years. The artist did not have any particular motive or intent in selecting the subjects of the landscape and portrait works. Rather, he was describing and presenting the temperament of a kind of consciousness space by way of a "weaken creation" and a relatively traditional painting style. The portrait and landscape have become merely a transmitting media. The artist attempts to minimize the conceptual nature of the works such that the vibe of the media itself can be diverged as far as possible. In the eyes of the peer, this kind of creation is almost "suicidal". Nevertheless, when Zheng Pingping consciously excluded the concepts attached to his works and the glorious coverage by forms, he has in fact lowered the threshold for the audience to view a work – everyone who has visual capability will be able to "understand" a simple painting of a portrait and a landscape. It does not challenge any knowledge or experience of the audience; it's a moderate presence. In a certain context, the artist is more like creating a "Square" way of viewing.
The so-called Square does not belong to any individual. As opposed to an individual living space, the Square is almost a wild presence - the wild space is not an unmanned space but a unattributed space. When we look along the artist's line of sight, one would find that Zheng Pingping is more interested in the existence of this kind of unattributed paintings. It does not matter whether it's a portrait or a landscape, nor whether it's a monster or a horse from the Hell.
