Located in Nanluogu Xiang, Yours boutique specializes in handcrafting handbags and hats from an often-overlooked fabric: woolen felt. The tiny store stocks rolls of it in a rainbow of colors. Owner An Xiaoxuan has designed more than 70 handbag styles; they’ve been printed up in a book, from which customers can choose their favorite style to have made. The coolest items include a purple evening clutch with winsome floral ornaments (RMB 156), a series of wool slippers for adults and babies, and a stunningly beautiful wool window decoration (窗花chuanghua) made with traditional paper-cutting techniques (RMB 40). Should An’s offerings fail to satisfy, customers are encouraged to bring in their own designs, be they for hats, accessories or bags, and get them tailor-made in a week. DIY fiends can also buy the materials from the store and browse copies of Handicraft magazine, which teaches basic crafting techniques.
