This hutong restaurant opened by the people behind the Yan Art Space in 798 serves Sichuan-style, “private cuisine” aimed at pleasing laowai palates from set menus (RMB 188-268 per person) in a quaint courtyard that was formerly home to a Qing-dynasty general. Dishes range from bamboo tube steamed chicken and straw mushrooms to mashed potatoes with a Sichuan twist (the 'gravy' consists of a tangy hawthorne syrup). If the weather is fine, you can eat in the breezy courtyard beneath an ancient date tree, amid rustling bamboo stalks.
