A Red Flag limo once used to ferry Chinese leaders around the city sits outside the award-winning Red Capital Club’s hutong courtyard. The red theme continues inside with 1950s-era memorabilia and furniture decorating the space. The food is described as “Zhongnanhai cuisine,” but could also fall into the bracket of sifang cai, or “private home cuisine,” dishes prepared and perfected according to the owner’s own personal recipes. Feast on intricate vegetable rolls, meats and seafood, with dish names referencing everything from classical literature and imperial history to socialist economics (i.e. the Yang Shangkun's Bean-Curd Shreds). Banquet menus for ten diners start at RMB 208-528 per person, but smaller reservations are possible. 10% service charge. Reserving one to two days in advance is recommended. Red Capital Club also arranges tours and events (see website for more details).
