Stars of Ukraine’s opera scene have somehow ended up performing at Kiev restaurant. They saunter among the tables dressed in military uniforms, belting out everything from Italian arias to Russian folk songs (one wonders how on earth they ended up at this somewhat hard-to-find restaurant in western Beijing). You can request your favorites for RMB 50 a pop, and the walls are adorned with framed photos of bygone Ukranian performers and singers. The boozy vodka kebabs and the indulgent Kiev pudding– which really is a rich cheesecake – come highly recommended. Other standouts include the Kiev steak and black pepper chicken stuffed with mushrooms. Don't leave without downing a glass of imported Ukranian vodka. If you're looking for Russian/Ukranian food with a healthy side order of kitsch, this is your place.
