If Taiyue Suites contained a few more places like Glen and Beer Mania, it could put the Sanlitun back into Nansanlitun Lu. As it is, Taiyue is still a bit lonely and creepy, and Dong suffers from its isolation in the building’s northeast corner. Not that it’s a bad place. It looks good, although it feels a little too pop-up and generic, with blocky Ikea-style fittings, whitewashed walls and exposed pipes. The staff is friendly enough, and the music is pretty decent. But would you go here just for a drink? The beer selection is limited to Tsingtao and standard imports, and the cocktails (average RMB 45) are barely cheaper than nearby Q Bar. Consider the generous food menu, coffee and tea selection, and films projected onto the wall, and Dong sounds more appealing – just not as a place to drink.
