In 2015, when Chinese craft beer was still spreading in a small area, a craft beer brand named "Bandian" was founded in Guilin, Guangxi.


The founder, Tintin, a former Grindcore musician, was working at an investment firm. In the early years of his work, he accidentally came into contact with craft beer, and then indulged in it, unable to extricate himself.


At that time, when his daughter arrived at the age of school, in order to facilitate the transfer, he rented a facade next to his daughter's school, bought some home brewing equipment, and founded the half-top.



In the process of running the business, he often flew all over the world to find a drink. In a few years, he has visited more than 80 of the top 100 breweries in the world.


In 2016, during a winery tour in America, he came into contact with the muddy IPA, which is just popular in the United States. Especially the tree house, the shock of Green made him unforgettable. After returning to China, Bandian began brewing turbid IPA.



 



At that time, raw materials were scarce and finding the right yeast was difficult. At the same time, there are very few materials for brewing this emerging style, and only half of the country can explore in the limited materials and materials.

As part of Spittoon’s Birthday Month — we’re turning 9! — we’re holding a special edition of Poetry Night on Thursday. We have a visiting author from Vienna — the famed translator Martin Winter — who will be reading, and the second half will be devoted to neo-Benshi. As David Harrison Horton explains it:
"In the silent film era, Japanese audiences would be treated with an in-house host to narrate the action on the screen, and often they would dramatically take on the roles of the characters on screen. Benshi were performers key to bringing both the domestic and foreign films to life for the audiences not accustomed to the new medium of film. The original benshi often, though not always, did this with the help of musical accompaniment. This practice soon migrated to other Asian countries, including Korea and China.
In China, a successful movie-teller was often in high-demand, and there was a circuit for films with good narrators and a small team of musicians.
Neo-Benshi is a way to recognize this forgotten artform, and to use it as a way to present a different way of seeing movies."
