Xiexie Tea

This ain’t your average donkey meat sandwich. Nope, most of us never would’ve guessed that the cheap snack once ubiquitous in the streets of pre-Great Brickening Beijing would now be sold at a trendy shop in the ritzy Taikooli Mall. But yet, like almost everything else forced out of the alleys, donkey sandwiches have found a new upscale home, this time in Xiexie Tea.

Feng's Kitchen

Open since mid-2015, Feng's Kitchen is located on busy Liangshidian Jie, and looks to have changed little from the 150-year-old shopfront but once inside the decor is more cluttered kitsch than traditional China.

The menu encompasses homestyle cuisine, including a roster of instantly recognizable Taiwanese classics like three cups chicken (RMB 78), Taiwanese-style sausage (RMB 38), beef noodle soup (RMB 48), braised pork belly (RMB 68), and red bean soup (RMB 25) made according to an 80-year-old family recipe.

Tasting Moments

Taiwanese canteen style Taoyuan Village launched its sister restaurant Tasting Moments at Parkview Green. The all-white tent-like restaurant is definitely pushing the contemporary minimalism to the extreme, but you would see they put much effort in details–with white marble table, white counter, white logo, and white counter.

Similar to Taoyuan Village (but much more expensive),they have three categories: warm soy-based drinks (RMB 26-38), five tea, soy bean milk cheese tea, cakes (烧饼, shaobing), rice roll, and snacks.

Little Ming Taiwan Railway Mealbox

pened on July 24, Little Ming Taiwan Railway Mealbox locates on the fifth floor of Topwin Center. This place combines two popular elements, classroom style and Taiwan railway mealbox. The two half-open dining areas are decorated in a theme of classroom, with blackboard, platform as the cashier desk, and the tables and chairs are also similar to the ones at school, which beckon on sacrificing some comfort of sitting.

Taoyuan Village

Taoyuan Village keeps things simple by serving only five items in total: warm soy bean drinks (RMB 8-10); deep-fried dough sticks (油条 youtiao, RMB 6); cakes (烧饼 shaobing, RMB 22-32); three rice rolls (饭团 fantuan, RMB 16-28), steamed buns (包子 baozi, RMB 26), as well as iced desserts in the summer.
