When the big freeze hits and winter takes over, a slew of ski resorts in and around Beijing are ready and waiting, open to all those seeking a bit of winter adventure. Here's a little list we put together of some top spots for your next ski weekend in the capital.
Nanshan Ski Resort
Nanshan Ski Resort, one of the biggest and prettiest ski resorts in Beijing, has been a fan favorite for years. Also known as Nanshan Ski Village, it's on the northern slope of a mountain called Nanshan, or "South Mountain", about 80km northeast of Beijing in Miyun County.
This place is decked out with top-of-the-line snowmaking equipment and two groomers to make sure the runs are always in the best shape. With a high-speed quad, two-man chair, 12 rope tows, and platter ski lifts, the resort can handle 5,400 skiers and snowboarders per hour. That means less time waiting and more time skiing!

Huaibei International Ski Resort
Huaibei International Ski Resort is a place we can't forget; it's where we first fell in love with skiing. Tucked away in the beautiful Huaibei Town in Huairou District, this resort is a real gem.
The resort includes one advanced ski slope, seven intermediate slopes, three beginner slopes, and a super fun snow park. Famous for its varied intermediate and advanced ski areas and a significant snow drop, it brilliantly blends cultural and natural landscapes. Skiing here feels like you're actually hugging the Great Wall!

VANKE Shijinglong Ski Resort
This resort is about 100km away from the hustle and bustle of Beijing's city center. Shijinglong Ski Resort is great for anyone, from beginner to intermediate skiers and snowboarders. It's the perfect spot for a day trip.
It has ten ski trails up its sleeve, these include one for the pros, four for the intermediates, four for the beginners, and even one that's wheelchair-accessible. Apart from skiing and snowboarding, they also offer ice skating, snowmobiling, curling, and sleigh rides. The toughest slope is over 1,000 meters in length and has a maximum slope of thirty degrees. The mid-level one tops out at twenty-eight degrees, while beginners can enjoy a 3,000-meter run with a gentle ten-degree slope. And for the snowboarders, there's a whole park just for you.

Beijing Yunfo Ski Resort
Located in Xiwengzhuang Town, Miyun district, Beijing Yunfo Ski Resort is spread over a massive 450,000 square meters. It's known for being a large, green ski resort in Northern China.
The resort has seven distinct ski slopes for all skill levels. There's a 1,000-meter advanced slope that meets international standards, with a thrilling 22-degree incline. It also has two intermediate slopes, ranging from 300 to 700 meters with a 17-degree slope. For the newbies, there are four beginner slopes between 100 to 300 meters with a softer 7-degree slope.
