The To Try List: uh-huh Wine Bar, New Yakitori in JinShang + More
New restaurants, dining deals, drinks discounts, guest shifts, pop-ups, and more happenings on our to try list this week.
Fukumimi Beyond Opens in JinShang·Yuan
The team behind Beyond Yakitori has partnered up with Japanese restaurant group Kuuraku to open Fukumimi Beyond in JinShang·Yuan. Spearheaded by Chris Niu, the founder of Beyond Yakitori, this is Kuuraku’s first ever branch in China. The first yakitori Niu ever tried was at a Kuuraku branch in Vancouver, Canada, and he trained with the Beyond Yakitori team in Japan under the Kuuraku Group's Fukumimi brand. With these connections, it goes without saying partnering to open a restaurant has made one of Niu’s dreams a reality.
Fukumimi Beyond brings Ginza to Beijing with bar style seating facing the open kitchen and smaller, more private booths tucked away on the right side all completed by cries of “Irasshaimase! いらっしゃいませ!” (Welcome to the business!) greeting you as you enter.
At the heart of Fukumimi Beyond is, of course, the yakitori. A must try is their signature Fukumimi Yaki (RMB 25) that features chicken thigh wrapped with skin. They also have classics like Chicken Thigh with Green Onion (RMB 16), Chicken Oysters (RMB 20), Pork Belly (RMB 20) and Wagyu Ribeye (RMB 45).
Other dishes to watch out for are the famous Beyond Scotch Egg (RMB 38) and Toasted Mackerel (RMB 38), the latter of which is toasted in front of you at the table with a blow torch until the skin is perfectly crispy. They also have a selection of excellent small dishes like the Tako Wasabi (RMB 14 for small plate, RMB 28 for big plate) which is bursting with umami flavor and Miso Cheese (RMB 14/28).

uh-huh Brings Wine and Cosy Vibes to the Hutongs
Opening up a little over a month ago and having celebrated their grand opening last week, uh-huh is, in their own words, “a chic, homely, and a bit funky wine bar and eatery”. They’re still in the experimental phase and currently have a trial menu which has a mix of Mediterranean, Indian, Inner Mongolian, and European dishes such as Hummus Mongolian Pastry (RMB 48), Smoked Bacon Grilled Chicken Linguini (RMB 58) and Beef Short Rib Biryani (RMB 288). They also have a selection of charcuterie and cheese if you fancy something smaller to nibble on.
As you’d expect from any wine bar worth its salt, they have a great wine selection with around eight wines available to buy by the glass, half bottle or whole bottle, and you're welcome to try before buying. There are also numerous other bottles available which can be selected from their walk-in wine cellar. They'll be having their first Latin Night tonight (Friday, Nov 24), so you can enjoy a bit of wine with some laid back tunes.
