Keep an Eye on the Job Market with Viva Beijing
Viva Beijing Professional Women’s Network is gearing up for spring in a special way – with a focus on the 2023 job market.
Remember them? They are Beijing’s first membership-based, professional women’s network, running strong since Jasmine Keel (France) and Sarah Cooper (UK) founded it in 2008. With diversity as their point of pride in every possible sense of the word, their range of events —every last Wednesday or Thursday of the month— focus on professional women’s development.
Plus, they have a biannual mentorship program that is included in their membership (RMB 750 per year). Phew! I’m done with the intro, so let’s jump into the bomb event that they’ll hold on Apr 27, starting from 6:30 pm at Bistro RE in Kerry Centre. What is it about, you ask? The title says it all — What to Expect from the Job Market in 2023.
Because I don’t know about you, but I for one would be happy to know. It’s not like it hasn’t been a wild ride for the last couple of years, after all. Labor market stability? Still a hot topic for economists and career experts to determine in 2022. Noticed how expensive your groceries have been lately? Thank inflation for that, and the interest rates aren’t looking any better. Stocks did plummet, that’s for sure, and yet the labor market remained steady, with companies competing fiercely for talent. However, things aren’t that clear.
On the one hand, with trends such as the Great Resignation or the art of doing the bare minimum at your job, otherwise known as quiet quitting, you’d think this is a golden time for employees to make more demands. But, many workers are simultaneously worried at the reports of rampant hiring freezes and layoffs. Did you switch jobs recently? Great, now let’s see whether you’ll get to keep your new position. Fed up with your current job? Maybe, but is this the right time to change? Well, look no further for an informative session...
...Surely you’ll want to check out the event lineup! They’re a dream trio —Jillian Wu, the cofounder of Cornerstone Global Partners (CGP Group), Serena Wu, Managing Director for entertainment and music company SQ Talent, and Vivian Xiao, Senior Vice President and Head of People, Inclusion and Culture for the Greater China Dept. in none other than Universal Music Group.
Jillian Wu established CGP in 2012 with five other cofounders, thus creating a China-centric recruitment firm focused on the search of mid-to-executive level roles. With over a decade of “change, iteration and development”, CGP stands nowadays as an international human resource service company, spanning across mainland China and abroad with 20 offices.
Likewise, Jillian is the head of Finance sector for Aon Insurance Canberra AUS, having joined the HR recruitment industry in 2006 as a returnee to China. Her resume features experience at both Antal International and MRI, two leading international recruitment firms specialized in mid-to-executive level positions' recruitment within the Accounting/Finance Function and Financial Services industry.
Serena Wu has amassed over ten years of recruitment experience in China, with outstanding success in placing senior level commercial candidates across a range of industries such as FMCG, Consumer Electronics, Automotive, Internet and Ecommerce. The year of 2020 marked her specialization in C-level executive search in the sports, entertainment and media industries. Prior to her joining SQ Talent, Serena led the commercial practice at multiple global leading search firms.
Vivian Xiao embarked on her current journey at Universal Music Group Greater China with over two decades of experience in corporate HR management and entrepreneurship, including her ample experience as a senior HR executive in several Fortune 500 multinational companies and listed local enterprises in the fields of NGOs, real estate, sports, financial services, fast moving consumer goods, logistics and supply chain.
Safe to say nobody knows entirely what the future holds in our fast-paced, ever-changing world. Which is why that old saying rings truer than ever before – information is power. Be sure to join Viva Beijing’s event and gain a sizeable morsel of knowledge on our current job market prospects!
