Three Places to Observe Beautiful Lotuses in Beijng This Summer

It is summer again, one of my favorite seasons in Beijing! Along with the lush green of the river valleys, many parks in the capital have an abundance of lotuses in June and July. Lotus flowers are well-known heat lovers, and as the temperature keeps on mounting, more and more of these gorgeous flowers start blooming as if they are embracing summer!

Below you'll find some of the best parks for viewing these wonderful summer bloomers.

Taoranting Park

The lotus flowers at Taoranting Park are finally blooming now! Home to pink peach blossoms and peonies as well, this is the best time to visit for endless green pools of lotus leaves embracing each other.

When you take a walk alongside the lakeside, with the cool breeze blowing in the air, it almost feels like as if the entire park is a traditional Chinese painting.

Yuanmingyuan Park

Head to Yuanmingyuan Park and indulge in more than 100,000 square meters of lotus flowers planted on the lake. This historical park is home to more than 400 varieties of lotus flowers, including the unique tropical water lily species.

Zizhuyuan Park

Lotuses bloom everywhere at Zizhuyuan Park in summer. In the middle of the park, there is a place called lotus lake, where you can take a boat to get a closer look at these flowers.

There are also cruise ships to and from the Summer Palace at the northwest side of the park. If you have enough time, you can even get on the ship and explore two places on the same day!
