OlymPicks: The Ice Cube Set to Open to the Public This Saturday

Although it would have been really cool for The Ice Cube to be turned into a giant sauna titled The Steam Cube, as we suggested in our April Fools prank, in reality for now it will be staying as is. The Ice Cube, formerly The Water Cube, which held the curling events during the Winter Olympics will be opened to the public for one month from Apr 16 until May 15. 

Visitors to the Olympic venue will have the opportunity to visit the curling pitches and be taught how to correctly throw a curling stone. They will also be able to see the athlete’s locker rooms which are made from converted shipping containers. This will include a display showing various presents that were exchanged between the Chinese Winter Olympic Team and other Olympic Teams during the Winter Olympics. 

Ever dreamed of standing on an Olympic podium and receiving a gold medal? Well you’ll have to imagine the gold medal part but you can check out the podium where the Chinese wheelchair curling team won the first gold medal for China in the Winter Paralympics.

Visiting the Ice Cube will also give you one final chance to have your photo taken with Bing Dwen Dwen (or the less popular Shuey Rhon Rhon) as extra-large statues of the two mascots have remained from the Olympics in the north and south corridors of the Ice Cube. 

As of press time, it's still a bit of a mystery as to how to visit, but we'll be sure to update as soon as word becomes available!
