Round One, Bite! Cast Your Vote in Burger Cup '21 Round of 64
Defending champions Side Street and three former Cup winners – Slow Boat, Home Plate and QMex – are in pole position as the pursuit for the title of Beijing’s Best Burger of 2021 gets underway.

Each of these four heavyweights garnered the most votes in our seeding round, which started last week and ended today at noon. Your balloting narrowed a field of 120 burger restaurants down to the 64 tastiest. They’ll now move on in head-to-head matchups, single elimination style.
The contestants are distributed evenly across four brackets, and each is assigned a seed based on the strength of their results in the seeding round. This means in each bracket the strongest (#1) goes head to head against the weakest (#16), while the second strongest (#2) is pitted against the second-weakest (#15), and so on.
This year, thanks to the explosion of new burger joints, the bracket of 64 has some noteworthy changes from 2020. A full 1/4 of the bracket sports brand new names, some of which saw brisk business at Burger Fest, including Kitty & Daniel’s, Burge’s Bistro & Bar, Niu Burger, L'Fête de Bistro 105, Leo’s Butcher and Fire Works. They find themselves alongside other new contenders like Commune Reserve, Station Grill, Panorama, Messy Burger and Fat Tiger Burger.

The bracket is halved every few days until the Oct 1 holiday, where we’ll present you the 16 remaining contenders (and hope that you fill your holiday with yet more burger-noshing). From there, the rounds get shorter and shorter until one burger is left standing.
