Whiskey experience at The Hutong

If you're looking to expand your palate for whiskey during this dreariest of seasons, look no further than The Hutong's special Whiskey Experience event next Thursday, Jan 28 at 7.30pm. Hosted by Dill King, a former whiskey brand ambassador and now independent cask trader, you'll learn how to discern a Speyside from swill through seven select whiskies. There'll also be a special whiskey burger and spicy fries to sober you up. Tickets cost RMB 280 and can be reserved here.

Hotpot and wine pairing at Cheers

Well, this is something new and exciting. If you're bored of the same ol' bottle of shudder-inducing Niulanshan baijiu with your hotpot, you'll want to check out Cheers' Dinner With Strangers event on Wednesday, Jan 27, where they've invited a sommelier to walk diners through three different wines alongside the usual lashings of meat, vegetables, and tofu boiled in a cauldron of delicious broth. Tickets cost RMB 150 and the fun takes place at Cheers' Chaoyang Park South Gate venue. Add WeChat ID: TTTAmerican1986TTT for more information and to reserve.

Crafters Mixology Kit contest

Fancy yourself a mixologist in the making? Crafters has just the opportunity for you. Basically, all you need to do is purchase one of Crafters' limited mixology kits, which includes their own distilled spirit, a bunch of beer, and some other goodies; then, you need to conjure up your own cocktail using the said ingredients. If your concoction is one of the lucky entrants to be selected for the final, you'll then have the opportunity to recreate your drink at an event in front of a special panel, and potentially win yourself two passes to an eight-course meal at Miam Miam paired with Crafters beers, valued at RMB 1,640. Get the full skinny on how to enter here, and good luck!

Slow Boat launches new beer to celebrate a decade of brewing

Ten years? How time flies when you're drinking beer! That's perhaps the sentiment you're feeling right now if you visited Slow Boat's original hutong taproom all the way back in 2011. Now the brewery, after significant expansion across the city, is ushering in a decade in the biz with the release of their limited edition 10 Year Beer Triple Oat Cream IPA. "Housed in a stunning and elaborate box perfect for CNY gifting, this Triple Oat Cream IPA is a knockout punch at 10.10 percent ABV," as described by Slow Boat. With only 1,600-ish 500ml bottles of this brew available at Slow Boat locations and their Taobao shop, you might want to get yours quick.
