The Grill Heats Up: 2020 Burger Cup Sliced to 32 Contenders

In every Burger Cup, there comes a time that the fat must be cut from the meat. Many contenders fought hard in our first round, but only the top 32 will move onto the next round. For those lucky contenders who made it through, the dream of being crowned Beijing’s best burger is alive and well.

This year saw a few newcomers who managed to perform well enough to slide through, namely Shake Shack, Prodigy Brewpub, Turkish Feast, Sliders by Henry, and That One Place. Meanwhile, another four burger slingers have upped their game enough to snag a spot in the Round of 32. They are: Migas Mercado (Last year’s rank: 36), Domain, EAST Beijing (38), QS (39) and The Rug Café (46), meaning that 28 percent of the remaining contenders are new this year to the Round of 32.

The newbies still have tough competition to face on the road ahead, as no shortage of old hats have also made the cut. In fact, 11 of the top 12 of the 2019 Burger Cup are still in the race, the sole exception being Crafter’s, who sold their beer at Prodigy’s booth this year but have discontinued their burger for lack of a venue.
