Bored Stiff? Warm Weather and Low Traffic Make It the Perfect Time for a Bike Tour
With most of Beijing's recreational activities still closed to the public due to the coronavirus, leisure-time choices are mighty thin.
The malls and the public parks are open, but you can only visit these places so many days in a row. What else is there? Ikea has reopened, but we hear they're limiting napping, so the fun's out there.
Here's one option that's flying under the radar: an e-bike tour of Beijing.
Run by B-Electric Bike Tours, these two-hour tours can be arranged for private groups of up to seven riders, with flexible starting times.
B-Electric in normal times is jammed up catering to overseas tourists, but due to the slowdown in visitors, locals like us don't have to book all that far in advance – in fact same-day bookings are often able to be accommodated.
Currently, they're offering their 'Modern Beijing' tour, which hits up everything from Galaxy Soho and Parkview Green to the CCTC Tower and the black "Batman" building next to Chaoyang Park.

B-Electric's main tour guide is British expat Dominic De Couto, who has led countless tours for the past year and a half, who is described by many a Tripadvisor reviewer as kind, knowledgable, and responsible.
Best of all? Beijing's traffic has still not returned to its pre-coronavirus levels, the weather is warming up, and hell, pollution is trending downward.
All tours are private and booked to order, and they're currently offering 25 percent off their normal price of RMB 400. Interested? The best way to book is to add them on WeChat via ID: BElectric.
For an afternoon getaway that breaks up the monotony of quarantine, that's not so bad at all.
