Best Buds: Find the Perfect Flowers for Your Home at Newly-Renovated Liangma Flower Galleria
Green-fingered Beijing shoppers now have a new place to pick up plants thanks to the recently-upgraded Liangma Flower Galleria, which has relaunched on the west side of the building that houses Liangma International Jewel and Antique Market just north of Solana. If you’re looking to add a touch of brightness and joie de vivre to your home, whether in the form of flowers or decor, then this is the place to do it.
A year after launching, the market’s management has applied all of the market research they have done and lessons they have learned over the past 12 months in creating this new flower market. Rather than competing on price or speed, they aim to create a high-quality shopping experience. As such, this temple to floral artistry is bright and spacious, with clean marble floors (no slippy spillages and plant clippings strewn about willy-nilly here) and a neutral decor scheme that lets the flowers themselves stand out. Some of the higher-end stores even employ the kind of lighting that is usually used to light jewelry, which really makes the colors of the blooms pop.
The market’s stalls sell everything from potted plants and cut flowers to Chinese-style trinkets and custom photo frames. Many of the vendors have been in the business for more than 20 years and are more than comfortable dealing with the requirements of international customers. The majority of the staff speak a little English, are happy to accept WeChat pay, and can even offer advice on topics such as which plants are suitable for houses with pets or small children and which plants can help improve indoor air quality(examples include Peace Lilies, Devil’s Ivy, and Mother-in-Law’s Tongue).
The front of the market is home to Mrs. Ding’s artificial flower shop. The store’s eponymous owner, who has been in the business for almost 40 years and has worked with many high-end hotels and restaurants, is an expert in putting together artificial flower arrangements and sells a wide range of colorful, everlasting flora, among the best quality available in Beijing. If you always struggle to keep plants alive or are reluctant to shell out for cut flowers only to have them wither a few days later, then this is the shop for you.
The move into this new building also brings the flower market that much closer to Liangma International Jewel and Antique Market’s wide selection of wares. The multi-story market boasts over 500 vendors selling everything from Chinese and international antiques to tea sets, cloisonné, and diamonds. Each floor has a similarly-themed selection of vendors; the first features mostly jade and fine jewelry; the second traditional crafts and art pieces; and the third antiques, pottery, furniture, and carpets. The management aims to create a one-stop-shop for culture and lifestyle products that is as much about the overall experience as it is about shopping.
With such a wide range of products on offer in such a convenient downtown location, the newly-renovated Liangma International Flower Market is bound to be a hit with local and international shoppers alike.
