Shred Up a Storm for RMB 1,000 in Cash at This Weekend's Beijing Burger Festival Air Guitar Competition

There are only mere days to go before this year's Burger Festival bonanza. To keep your interest piqued prior to the big event we thought it only right to shed a little light on this year's theme (as well as our first ever Air Guitar Competition – more on that below).

In keeping with burgers and their deep-rooted American tradition – and if not American then what are they? – we've themed this year's event after the world-famous US Route 66 highway. Running close to 4,000km between Chicago, Illinois and Los Angeles County, California, Route 66 was opened in 1926 as a means to link huge swaths of the western United States and ease domestic migration.

The "Main Street of America" has remained a cultural icon ever since, taking center stage in everything from masterpieces of literature (Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath) to giving rise to whole counter-cultures (the Route 66 Biker Rally) as well as communities around the fast food establishments and diners (Delgadillo's Snow Cap Drive-In) that begun to line the road in the 1950s and remain open to this day.

Thanks to this year's Burger Festival, the road now stretches all the way to Beijing, bringing with it burgers, beer, and good ol' American entertainment. Aside from our Best Buns competition (sign up here for the chance to win over RMB 2,000 in prizes), we'll also be running a massive air guitar romp for the shredders among you to jump on stage and get – as Bill and Ted above would put it – bodacious.

How it'll work

On Saturday and Sunday at 5pm, eight contestants will be invited on stage to show off their imaginary shredding skills. Summoning the energy of the world's guitar gods, they'll then take turns jumping, fretting, and headbanging it out to a one-minute clip of a song of their choosing in order to prove themselves the ultimate air guitar hero. Whoever comes out victorious – as determined by the crowd's roars and a very scientific decibel meter – stands to win at least RMB 1,000 in cash plus whatever coupons and gifts we have lying around on the day.

How to register

Let us know in advance by sending us an email at marketingteam@truerun.com or just turn up at Burger Fest (either day) and sign up.

May the best rocker win!

Finally, we're almost out of RMB 20 advance tickets for the event (which come with a nifty Beijinger branded bandana), but don't worry, you'll still be able to buy tickets at the door for RMB 25.

Now for a word from our sponsors...

As a special offer to this year's Burger Fest attendees, we've partnered with DiDi's English version (DiDi EN) to provide exclusive discounts for DiDi EN rides over the festival weekend. To receive a DiDi coupon packed with a total value of RMB 20, simply click this link or scan the QR code above, enter your phone number and accept your gift coupon (if you don't yet have DiDi EN, you'll be prompted to download and install).

If you attended our Hot & Spicy Festival earlier this year, it's likely that you came across the shrieks and smiles over at the InstaPhoto booth. Expect more of the same again this weekend, except this time they'll also bring their mobile digital booth allowing you to instantly upload themed gifs to your WeChat to share directly with friends. Read more about what InstaPhoto offers here.

International Medical Center Beijing is the official medical sponsor of this year's Beijing Burger Festival and will be on site throughout the weekend should you need medical assistance.
