5 Things to Taste, Smell, Touch, Hear, and See, Mar 22-24

Beijing can be an overstimulating place to live, to say the least. Let’s be real: sometimes even our sixth sense (the one that tells you when that stick of chuan'r will make you sick for the next two days) gets a decent workout. With such a wide variety of events, restaurants, and gigs to attend, we suggest bathing each of your five senses in one, if not all, of the nourishing goings-on below.

Taste

Until Mar 31: Local Food Heroes at Hotel Jen
You can never have enough local grub, which is a good thing because Hotel Jen has organized a lavish feast of old Beijing bites (see above) collaborating with longstanding hutong restaurants around town. From everyone's favorite jianbing to everyone's not-so favorite luzhu (stewed intestines – yum!), the event looks to be a great one-stop shop for a crash course in the best Beijing has to offer. Lunch 11.30am-2.30pm; Dinner 5.30-9.30pm. Hotel Jen, San Wu Tang

Smell

Mar 23-24: Cherry Coffee Festival
Coffee belongs among the world's superfoods: it's full of drugs, it's legal, and happens to taste absolutely glorious to boot. If you happen to agree, you'll want to join fellow coffee lovers (*cough* addicts) this weekend for a buzzed adventure through the divine smells and tastes of some of the world's top brewers. Caution: after the festival, you might never again be satisfied with a quick venti from Starbucks. Read more about what to expect hereRMB 70-128. 24H Gear Square

Touch

Mar 23-24: A Ski Break
Forgot to bid winter a proper farewell? No concern, as this weekend Jing-A is organizing a drunken skiing vacation (insurance included) to Chongli alongside plenty of beer, providing one last chance to toast Beijing's grimmest of seasons goodbye. The aforementioned beer, as well as donuts, dinner, breakfast, and all skiing equipment come included with the ticket. Registration closes Mar 23, 6am. RMB 1,800

Hear

Mar 22: Meet the Podcasters at SLab
Can't bear to start your day without a podcast? Better yet, start the weekend with a podcast related networking event in which you can finally put faces to, and meet, some of your favorite China-focused podcasters. Hosts of China Tech Talk, How China Works, Middle Earth, among others will all be on hand to discuss how they got started in the business and how you can up your own game. 7pm. Free. The SLab

See

Mar 24: The Last Tribe on Earth
Art fusion is certainly all the rage these days. Whether it's slam poetry, paint battles, or poetry and classical guitar, Beijing is awash with new creative mashups. This Sunday, as part of the Bookworm Literary Festival, opt-in for an original performance of the latter, with Anthony Tao reciting poetry alongside the playful strumming of guitarist Liane Halton. 6pm. RMB 60 (includes a drink). The Bookworm

This is only a fraction of this weekend's events. Grab an eyeful of what else is in store, right here.
