Fight the Urge to Stay in Bed: Where to Watch Manny Pacquiao vs. Adrien Broner Jan 20
Beijing boxing fans: are you ready to rumble this weekend? The big fight between the legendary Manny Pacquiao and four-division champion (and the self-described second coming of Floyd Mayweather) Adrien Broner is rapidly approaching, hitting us square between our Sunday morning eyes on Jan 20 at 10am.
While it may not be the fight of the century a la the 2015 hyped showdown between Pacquiao and Mayweather, the Philipino veteran's upcoming bout with Broner should still make for a hard-hitting brawl that's not to be missed. After all, at 40 years old, Pacquiao won't be stepping into the ring many more times. If he wins, his legacy will be cemented. On the other hand, if Broner knocks his block off, then we'll witness the beginning of a whole new era for the sweet science. Either way, it's worth getting up early on Sunday and heading to your favorite sports bar to see every hook and uppercut.
Below we've rounded up the Beijing bars and restaurants showing the fight, along with details about food and drink deals for the occasion.
Beersmith
Guomao brewpub and grill Beersmith will open at 10am to show the big bout. RMB 100 gets you entry and a drink, and if you're really getting into the spirit, order some Philippine Sisig tacos (evoking Pacquiao's homeland) or a Land of the Free Wagyu cheeseburger.
Centro
Another CBD bar, Centro at the Kerry Center hotel, will also roll out the burgers, offering a special RMB 108 burger and Tsingtao set.
Caravan
Morrocan bistro and bar Caravan dedicates its screens to the fight come Sunday morning. As you watch, gorge on their hearty shakshuka brunch (RMB 65) and other breakfast options.
Joe's Bar and Kitchen
Knock out your hunger (and hangover?) with Gongti bar and kitchen Joe's RMB 88 breakfast menu this Sunday. That fee will get you sausage, ham, scrambled eggs, fried tomato, fried mushroom toast, and a drink to keep your energy levels up while you watch the fight.
Paddy O'Shea's
Arguably the most popular sports bar in town, Dongzhimen's Paddy O'Shea's will be open at 9.30am for the fight. Unlike other venues on this list, they won't have a special meal discount available, though they will thankfully be serving free-flow coffee.
