Rock-Hard Buns: Refreshingly Gimmick-Free Fun and Tasty Burgers at Gongti Sports Bar Joe's Bar and Kitchen
In the wake of our 2018 Beijing Burger Festival and the ongoing Burger Cup, our Rock-Hard Buns series will whet your appetite by taking a look at those vendors who slung their wares at the veritable meat fest that just past. Remember to vote for your favorite here!
Beijing barflies are pretty spoiled for choice when it comes to getting their drink on. We love everything from craft beer bars to fancy temples of mixology but sometimes all we want is a simple sports bar. Thankfully, the emergence of Joe's Bar and Kitchen in Gongti has given us a great option in that category.
Just like its name, this Gongti establishment is refreshingly simple – no gimmicks, just regular beers, pub grub such as burgers and pizza, and sports. The venue is spacious with several dozen seats inside and pleasantly casual, drinks are affordable, and a few huge LED TVs broadcast the hottest games and must-see matches. Fans of Paddy O'Shea's or the now-defunct Den will find plenty to enjoy here.
We spoke to the owners of Joe's Bar and Kitchen about their recipe for success (spoiler alert: it's great meat).
In your opinion, what are the most important elements in making a great burger?
MEAT!
Tell us about your signature burger. Name three reasons why it’s unique and potentially the best burger in Beijing.
Our classic beef burger is our signature. It features imported beef from America and homebaked bread, and all of the accompanying ingredients are bought fresh on the day.
What burgers and sides did you bring to our 2018 Beijing Burger Fest?
As well as our classic burgers, we also brought our luxurious Boston lobster burger.
What drink from your menu goes best with the burger?
Beer, of course.
Aside from your own restaurant's burger, what is the best burger you've ever had?
To be honest, I've never tried a burger that is better than ours. If you don't believe me, then you'll just have to come try it for yourself!
What foodstuff or condiment should in your opinion never sully a beautiful burger?
For me, it's eggs or bacon, and also too much black pepper.
Only your vote can help push your favorite burger through to this year's final. Read up on who is currently in the running to be crowned Beijing's Best Burger and then scan the QR code above to have your say!
