At noon tomorrow (Sep 22), voting closes in the first round of our 2017 Pizza Cup, meaning that over 70 of this year's hopefuls will be sliced from the competition and forced to wait another 12 months to have their time in the spotlight.

This year marks the biggest Pizza Cup ever, with a massive 109 vendors contending to win the prize of Pizza Champ compared to the 88 competitors last year. Fourteen of this year's competitors are complete newbies to the race, only setting up shop in Beijing within the last 12 months.

Looking at the votes that have been counted so far, we can tell you that there are some patterns already emerging among the electorate. Apparently, pizza love knows no (gender) boundaries, with an almost dead-even split between male and females turning out to vote. The majority of people also have around three or four pizza venues to their repertoire and one of you out there orders pizza 10 times a week (you animal, you). What's even weirder, perhaps, is that 5 percent of voters enjoy washing down their cheesy dough with milk. Different strokes and all that.
